On Saturday morning, September 12th, we will be inspecting ALL privately owned riding cars and/or locos that will be used in public trains. Mike DeMars, Fran Neuer, Larry Messing, and Marty Simmon will be available from 9am until noon at the steaming bays and Adobe Yard areas to conduct the inspections. After the 1pm general membership meeting, John Draftz will hold the annual safety/operations orientation for everyone helping with public runs and anyone else who would like to attend. Representatives from signals and track maintenance will give participants an update on their respective areas. Anyone not able to attend the September sessions can make up the inspection/orientation the following month on Saturday, October 10 (same schedule). As per Rule 512, “Engineers must pass an engineer’s test annually prior to operating on MLS track.” Therefore, if you plan to operate on the MLS track, you need to complete the 2009-10 engineer’s test. Public run crews should complete the test before our first public run Sunday, September 13th. Both the on-line and printable versions of the test may be found on the MLS web site. Printed copies of the test are also available in the clubhouse. The private equipment inspection documents will be signed and kept in a binder at the stationmaster’s desk. A log sheet will also be completed so it can be scanned quickly to confirm the equipment that has been inspected.”
